Our mission at The Solar Power Café is to be the premier provider of engineering solutions specializing in solar and high-voltage battery systems across South Africa, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and East Africa.

Michelle has a working history of 21 years and had a career in the fields of international import & export, catering & hospitality, B2B procurement and E-commerce. In 2017 she saw a need in Roger’s business to explain technical concepts to clients, in order to make engineering approachable and becoming a ‘tech translator’.
With a finance degree, she applied and was accepted for various scholarships and opportunities to study Renewable Energy, Solar PV and Electrical studies locally & internationally. She also spent 6 years on site with the team to learn everything from the ground up and has a very deep understanding of the technical specifications and compliance required for Solar PV and Lithium Battery installations.
Taking on a more strategic role going forward, her focus is on business growth, sustainable job creation, scaling up with skilled personnel, expanding into the East Africa region, establishing strategic alliances with engineering partners and ensuring experienced, qualified women are also appointed to decision-making roles.
Roger has a working career spanning a period of 39 years and worked in the Petrochemical, Nuclear, Mining & Metals industry for 29 years. He spent the first 14 years in the Petrochemical industry in a technical capacity, doing maintenance and executing control system projects.
During this time period he was exposed to the full detail design phase of industrial control systems on the Honeywell TDS and FSC platforms. He subsequently moved on to join Honeywell and was primarily responsible for implementation of projects on the Sasol plants in Secunda, which were inclusive of both software and hardware modifications and commissioning services. He joined MR Control Solutions in 2005 as part owner and provided consulting engineering services to Sasol, Eskom and Westinghouse during this period.
The company merged with Hatch at the end of 2009 and he became regional director for Operational Services in the Energy, Mining and Metals and Infrastructure businesses. At present he is the owner and founder of Belingh (Pty) Ltd, a technology company, specifically focusing on Renewable Energy Solutions and has worked with The Solar Power Café since 2017.
